Alex focuses his law practice at Wheeler, Montgomery & Boyd on DUI and criminal defense. His primary goal when approaching any DUI case is to not only understand the legal issues associated with such cases, but also the scientific and physiological concerns that often go unnoticed in many circumstances. Through his knowledge of the science behind complex topics such as breath testing, field sobriety testing, and blood testing, Alex attempts to bring a new angle to DUI cases to challenge the prosecution's evidence and government witnesses. Notably, Alex is the author of a comprehensive law review article discussing the scientific flaws associated with breath alcohol testing in the context of DUI sentencing statutes. The article was selected for publication in the January 2017 edition of the Gonzaga Law Review (Volume 52-2).
Alex was born and raised in Southwest Washington and graduated from Columbia River High School in Vancouver. Alex then earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, where he focused his studies on law and sociology. During his time at the University of Washington, Alex interned at the Federal Public Defender's Office in the Western District of Washington, where he assisted in case preparation for criminal cases and trials in federal court. Alex also served as an intern at the University of Washington Police Department, where he supported local detectives and police in case organization and investigation. After graduating from the University of Washington, Alex earned his law degree from the Lewis and Clark Northwestern School of Law, where he was awarded the "Dean's Scholarship" and graduated magna cum laude ranked in the academic top-10 of his graduating class. During law school, Alex served as a student researcher and editor for West Publishing's 2016 textbook titled "Introduction to the Study of U.S. Law," and during his final year, he was selected as a student teaching mentor to tutor first-year law students on the topics of criminal law and procedure.
When he isn't practicing law, Alex races downhill mountain bikes at a competitive level around the Pacific Northwest. He also enjoys music and playing any one of his several guitars.
