Defending a DUI is very different from handling any other type of criminal matter. The elements of the offense are often extremely technical in their details and require an attorney who is not just merely familiar with DUI’s, but actually focuses on handling them. A guilty plea or conviction for DUI can result in license suspension, jail sentence, heavy fines, installation of an ignition interlock device, and mandatory high-risk (SR-22) vehicle insurance. If you’ve been charged with DUI, please give us a call to discuss your rights and options.
It is important to keep in mind that fighting a DUI typically has two completely different aspects; the criminal court system and the Washington Department of Licensing hearings. Each of them requires knowledge of complex legal arguments and expertise that only an experienced DUI lawyer can provide. Either organization can have your driver’s license suspended, even if you are successful in dealing with the other one. This makes it critical to have an attorney who can represent you on both fronts. At Wheeler Montgomery Sleight & Boyd, our attorneys can defend your rights in both criminal cases and hearings with the Department of Licensing.
When you are charged with DUI, you need an attorney who keeps up with changes in this constantly developing area of practice. Our attorneys are experienced in the proper methodology to handle complex questions of DUI law related to:
You should never plead guilty to DUI before contacting an attorney to discuss your options. If you’ve been pulled over for DUI, please give us a call immediately to set up an appointment to discuss your case. The initial consultation is free, and we can discuss the options available to you to protect your rights and driving privileges.
What our DUI clients say
Thank you for your professional help. I was impressed by how you step-by-step explained everything I needed to do. I was very helpful during a stressful time.
I am happy to say that as a client of Andrew's I was able to get my charges and verdict down to something that I could manage and get done. Without Andrew I know that my case would have a completely different outcome, (I hired Andrew late in my case) even resulting in the loss of my job and possibly my current home. Andrew worked very hard in reviewing and finding a solution for me. I strongly suggest that you retain Andrew on a DUI case, as it may seem hopeless, he is there to help you get the charges within the boundaries of the law and make sure you are represented to the best of his ability.
Andrew Wheeler is very professional and incredibly knowledgeable about the law. He doesn't back down and will do his absolute best to defend. Thank you and your entire team for the great work on my case. If anyone I come in contact with is needing some legal advice, I will make sure to refer them to your staff.
I got drunk one night and ended up getting arrested (after resisting and getting tazed) and charged with a list of felonies and misdemeanors that the judge called "egregious". I hired Mr. Wheeler and immediately knew I had made the right decision. He charged a flat-fee and updated me weekly as he negotiated with the DA and the Department of Licensing for my civil and criminal charges. In the end all but one charge was dropped, which required a fine (hundreds instead of the original thousands) and even that can be expunged in three years. I've talked to several people since my arrest who had lesser charges than mine, and most ended up with jail time and/or hefty fines and ALL of them had their licenses suspended. The criminal justice system is not a DIY project. It pays to hire an expert, and Andrew Wheeler is the best in the business.
